PERA Dance BA Entry Guidelines

Entry to the PERA Dance BA is by submitting the online application form and following a successful completion of the audition process.

LIVE AUDITION

In order to be eligible for an audition as a candidate student, you will need to complete and submit our online application form.

Upon receiving a response to your application, please select and book an audition you wish to attend. You will need to secure your place in the audition before the closing date for the audition you wish to attend. Please note that a response will be sent to the e-mail address you provide in your application form to confirm your online booking.

The deadline to secure a place at the audition is 7 days prior to the selected audition.

Selected applicants will be required to attend an online interview (no longer than 1 week after the audition).

VIRTUAL AUDITION

In order to be eligible for a virtual audition as a candidate student, you will need to complete and submit our online application form.

Upon receiving a response to your application, please select and book an audition date. You will need to secure your place in the audition before the closing date for the audition you wish to attend. Please note that a response will be sent to the e-mail address you provide in your application form to confirm your online booking.

The deadline to secure a place at the audition is 7 days prior to the selected audition.

VIDEO AUDITION

Interested applicants who are unable to attend any of the live and virtual auditions will be able to audition by video, subject to the availability of places on the program.

You will need to send your video audition under the e-mail subject title of;

“DANCE_AUDITION_2022_YOUR NAME” ((e.g: DANCE_AUDITION_2022_John Smith)

The recorded audition should include the following:

  • 10 minutes of material from a ballet technique class including barre and center work;
  • 10 minutes of material from a contemporary technique class including floor work;
  • 2 minutes of improvisation on two opposing themes;
  • 2 minutes of solo devised and performed by yourself;
  • A speech no longer than a two minutes about yourself, highlighting your expectations from the program and demonstrating your motivation to study dance at a professional level.

PERA Short Entry Guidelines

Entry to the PERA Short is by submitting the online application form and following a successful completion of the audition process.

In the email, please clearly indicate whether you are interested in the PERA Short Contemporary Dance or Physical Theatre strand, and make sure to include your CV, a copy of your ID/passport, and video audition links of yourself practicing in studio and/or performing.

The recorded audition for the Contemporary Dance strand should include the following:

  • 5 minutes of material from a contemporary technique class including standing combinations and floor work;
  • 2 minutes of improvisation on two opposing themes;
  • 2 minutes of solo devised and performed by yourself;
  • And/or a recording of yourself, no longer than 5 minutes, from a performance (please include at least two different sections that show opposing themes);
  • A speech, no longer than a two minutes, about yourself, highlighting your expectations from the course and demonstrating your motivation to study contemporary dance on PERA Short.

The recorded audition for the Physical Theatre strand should include the following:

  • 2 minutes of improvisation on two opposing themes;
  • 5 minutes of solo performance that would incorporates movement and vocal work or text, devised and performed by yourself;
  • And/or a recording of yourself, no longer than 5 minutes, from a performance (please include at least two different sections that show opposing themes or theatrical ideas);
  • A speech, no longer than a two minutes, about yourself, highlighting your expectations from the program and demonstrating your motivation to study physical theatre on PERA short.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENROLLMENT

QUALIFICATION

  • Applicants for the PERA Dance B.A. and PERA Short must have completed high school.

THE LANGUAGE OF TEACHING IS ENGLISH

  • Applicants for the PERA Dance B.A. and PERA Short will need to demonstrate their language proficiency in the interview section of the audition.

AGE

  • For the PERA Dance B.A. or PERA Short, applicants must be 18 years or older.

AUDITION OUTCOME

  • Applicants are required to pass the audition.

The suitability of applicants for PERA’s Contemporary Dance programs is evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Technical dance skills
  • Movement range and development potential
  • Originality in movement
  • Precision in the execution of movement
  • Creative clarity and intention
  • Musicality
  • Versatility and adaptability
  • Sensitivity and open-mindedness
  • Individuality and honesty
  • Presence in Performance

The suitability of applicants for the PERA Short strand in Physical Theatre is evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Movement range and development potential
  • Originality in movement
  • Precision in the execution of movement
  • Voice and Movement Integration
  • Creative clarity and intention
  • Musicality
  • Versatility and adaptability
  • Sensitivity and open-mindedness
  • Individuality and honesty
  • Emotional embodiment and presence in performance
